Our Standards
The checks every professional passes before we connect them with a homeowner — and what disqualifies one.
Every professional meets these
Not aspirations. Checks performed before any connection is made, and re-checked afterwards.
Registration verified as active
Checked against Washington L&I's public register at the point of connection, not taken on trust from an application form.
Bond confirmed current
The surety bond is the homeowner's financial recourse. An expired bond removes it, so we check the date rather than the existence.
Insurance confirmed in force
Current general liability cover, confirmed as active rather than as something that was once purchased.
Infraction history reviewed
We look at what L&I has published. An isolated old item is context; a pattern is a decision.
Genuine service area
We confirm where they actually travel, not where their marketing says they operate.
Genuine specialism
We confirm they do your specific type of work within the category, because the category label hides a lot.
Every professional we connect you with holds an active Washington L&I registration, a current surety bond and current liability insurance, verified at the point of connection and re-checked on a recurring basis.
What disqualifies a professional
- A registration that has lapsed, expired or been suspended
- An expired surety bond or lapsed liability insurance
- A pattern of unresolved infractions on the L&I record
- A business name that does not match the registration record
- Repeated failure to respond to homeowners we have connected them with
- Any report from a homeowner of work left unresolved
Why we re-check
Registrations lapse. Bonds expire. Insurance is cancelled for non-payment. A contractor who was fully compliant when they joined may not be six months later, which is why a one-time check at signup is not a standard — it is a snapshot.
What we tell you
If we do not have a professional who meets these standards for your service in your area, we will say so. That is more useful to you than a connection we are not confident in.
Frequently asked questions
On a recurring basis rather than once at signup, because registration status changes. Registrations lapse, bonds expire and insurance gets cancelled for non-payment. A contractor compliant when they joined may not be six months later.
It is a financial instrument that exists as recourse for homeowners and others with valid claims against a registered contractor. It is not unlimited, and it is not the same as insurance — but it is real protection, and an expired bond removes it entirely. That is why we check the date rather than just whether one exists.
We look at L&I's published infraction history, which is factual and verifiable, rather than relying on review platforms. We also act on what homeowners tell us directly — a professional who does not resolve problems does not stay in our network.
We tell you. For some specialist services in smaller regions there may be no professional we are confident recommending, and saying so is more useful than making a connection we do not believe in.
